New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tributes to the courageous soldiers and security personnel who laid down their lives in Handwara encounter.
He tweeted, “Tributes to our courageous soldiers and security personnel martyred in Handwara. Their valour and sacrifice will never be forgotten. They served the nation with utmost dedication and worked tirelessly to protect our citizens. Condolences to their families and friends.”

India lost five bravehearts namely, 21 Rashtriya Rifles Commanding Officer Col Ashutosh Sharma along with Major Anuj Sood, Naik Rajesh and Lance Naik Dinesh and Sub-inspector Nazeer of Jammu Kashmir Police while trying to rescue hostages from the terrorists.
At the same time two terrorists were killed in the encounter, while one being a top LeT Commander.
