Karauli: In a brutal attack, a 50-year old temple priest, Babulal Vaishnav was set on fire in the Bokna village, Sapaotra division of Karauli district of Rajasthan. Six attackers believed to be land mafia poured kerosene and petrol on him and set him ablaze.

The priest however could not be saved due to severe burn injuries. He had suffered 50 per cent burn injuries in the attack, according to hospital authorities.

The priest was attacked for resisting the land mafia from encroaching upon the temple land. According to reports, part of the land was gifted to the priest by the temple authorities and he was constructing a house on the plot.

The priest had suffered burn injuries all over his body, post which he was admitted to the Burn Department in Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur. However, he succumbed to his injuries later

Despite naming the accused in his dying testimony, the police have not taken any action against the criminals so far. This shows the lack of law and order in Rajasthan where Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also holds the home portfolio.
