The Delhi government will provide an ex-gratia amount of Rs 50,000 to all those families in the National Capital that has lost a member due to COVID-19, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Tuesday.

He also announced that families whose sole breadwinner died due to COVID-19 will get a monthly pension of Rs 2,500, besides the ex-gratia.

‘All those children who have lost both their parents to COVID; or if their single parent to COVID, and have been orphaned, every such child will be given Rs 2,500 per month till the age of 25 and those children will be provided with free education,’ CM Kejriwal said while addressing a digital press conference here.

He said in Delhi, there are about 72 lakh people who have a ration card and every ration card holder will get 10 kgs of ration free of cost for this month.

In addition to the city’s 72 lakh ration card holders, the Delhi government will also provide free ration to those who don’t have a ration card, CM Kejriwal said.

‘These steps will be implemented within the next few days and will be passed by the Cabinet,’ he said.
