Days after talking of replicating Gujarat model in power sector, the state owned power utilities in Assam has asked its nearly 63 lakh consumers in the state to register their personal details including mobile number in their website by July 15, failing which the electricity connection will be disconnected.

In this regard the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has published a notification, urging customers to register their mobile numbers, e-mail ID ( if any), Aadhar number ( if any), occupation, etc in the APDCL portal, www.apdcl.org.

The move has been undertaken by the loss making power utilities of compiling all information digitally to unbundle the information and accounting process.

According to power minister Bimal Bora, state electricity boards are losing Rs 300 crore on monthly basis due to non-payment of bills by consumers, government offices and many heavy industries.

“Those customers who fail to register their register their mobile phone numbers in APDCL portal, and not providing their relevant details within 15th July 2021, maybe barred from electricity connection temporarily,” notification said.

Notably, Chief Minister Sarma a week back had a detailed discussion with the higher officials of Gujarat Urja Vikas Limited and advised state power utilities to adopt the best practices of the profit making discoms.
