Dehradun, Jul 2 (UNI):   Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat on Friday submitted his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya here, nearly four months after he took charge for the coveted post.

Rawat reached Raj Bhavan at around 2300 hrs along with his cabinet colleagues Subodh Uniyal, Arvind Pandey, Vishan Singh Chufaal, Ganesh Joshi and MLA Rajesh Shukla and met the Governor for 10 minutes to submit his resignation.

According to sources, Ms Maurya has asked him to continue in his post till a new chief minister is elected.

Earlier an hour ago, amid strong speculations of an announcement of change of guard in the state, Mr Rawat addressed a press conference, however, concealed the major development of the hill state in his nearly 8 minute speech.

In the media briefing, Mr Rawat lauded the achievements of the state government for the past one year.
Pertinent to mention here that Mr Rawat was in Delhi for the last three days where he also met the party president J P Nadda.

Meanwhile, according to sources, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda is coming to Dehradun on a two-day tour on July 10, while a meeting of the legislature party has been called at 1500 hrs on Saturday in which the new leader of the party will be elected.

Tirath Singh Rawat, has become yet another name to be added to Uttarakhand’s long list of Chief Ministers who could not finish their term.
