Mumbai: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrests a Malayali and his son, in connection to a gold smuggling that took place last month at Mumbai airport. 18 Sudanese women were arrested last month who were collectively carrying 16kgs of gold for them, which is worth about ₹10 crores.
Kozhikode natives Muhammed Ali and his son, Shaheeb who are jewellers in Dubai are the main masterminds behind this gold smuggling.
Upon further interrogation of these women, the intelligence agency received information regarding the jeweller and his son which led to their arrest.
The DRI said that these 18 Sudanese women travelled from UAE to Mumbai through three different flights. These women are said to be gold smugglers who work on commissions, and were said to be smuggling the gold in forms of paste and ornaments.
