New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India today said that it will take up the Ayodhya case for hearing on February 26th. The apex court had earlier made it clear that it will only look into the 2.77 acre land dispute.

On February 26, a 5-judge Constitution Bench headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi will take up 13 appeals on the verdict of the Allahabad High Court.

The Allahabad High Court had on 2010 ruled that the 2.77 acre in Ayodhya be divided equally among three contesting parties which include Nirmohi Akhara, the Sunni Waqf Board and Ram Lalla.

All the three parties appealed against this decision of the High Court.

The 5-judge bench will consist of Chief Justice Rangan Gogoi, and Justices Ashok Bhushan, Abdul Nazeer, D Y Chandrachud, and S A Bobde.

The Supreme Court had on two occasions cancelled the hearing. The first on January 10 when Justice U U Lalit excused himself from hearing the case which led to the apex court setting up a new bench.

However, the case which was to be taken on January 29th got cancelled again when Justice S A Bobde informed of his unavailability.
