Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on an official visit to the United States and Egypt from June 20 to June 25. Modi’s visit to the United States comes in response to the gracious invitation extended by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The trip will commence in New York, where the Prime Minister will lead the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21.
Following the New York leg, PM Modi will travel to Washington, DC, where he will receive a ceremonial welcome at the White House on June 22. During his time in Washington, he will engage in high-level discussions with US President Joe Biden, continuing their ongoing dialogue. Furthermore, on June 22, the Prime Minister has been invited to address a joint sitting of the US Congress by Congressional Leaders, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy and Speaker of the Senate Charles Schumer.
On June 23, a luncheon will be jointly hosted by US Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken in honor of Prime Minister Modi.
After concluding his visit to the United States, PM Modi will proceed to Cairo for a state visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt, which is scheduled from June 24 to June 25. The invitation to visit Egypt was extended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during his attendance as the “Chief Guest” at India’s Republic Day celebrations in January 2023. Notably, this will be PM Modi’s first visit to Egypt, according to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
