New Delhi: In response to the circulation of propaganda material, including threatening posters, targeting Indian diplomats in Canada, India has summoned the Canadian High Commissioner in New Delhi. A demarche has been served to the Justin Trudeau government regarding this matter.
According to sources, India expressed its concerns on Monday regarding the threats posed to its diplomats through posters being circulated in Canada. These posters provide information about a pro-Khalistan rally scheduled for July 8. The posters specifically contain threats aimed at the Indian ambassador to Canada and the Consulate General in Toronto.
The Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma, Consul General Toronto Apoorva Srivastava were named in the posters circulated by the extremists, claiming that India was responsible for the killing of Khalistan Tiger Force Chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The rally is being held in the name of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani terrorist who was killed in a targeted shooting in Surrey, Canada, on June 18.
Meanwhile, Canada has assured the safety of Indian diplomats ahead of the ‘Khalistan Freedom Rally’ on July 8. Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said that her country is in close contact with Indian officials in light of some ‘unacceptable’ posters that have appeared in Canada.
