New Delhi: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, praised the success of Project Tiger, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, stating that it has led to an impressive outcome where 70 percent of the world’s tigers are now found in India.
In a video message to the G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Ministerial Meeting in Chennai, PM Modi highlighted the country’s commitment to conservation efforts with upcoming initiatives such as Project Lion and Project Dolphin.He also announced the launch of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), which aims to protect the seven big cat species on Earth, drawing from the knowledge and success gained from Project Tiger.
“India has recently launched the International Big Cat Alliance for the conservation of 7 big cats on our planet. It is based on our learnings from Project Tiger, a pioneering conservation Initiative. As a result of Project Tiger, 70 percent of the world’s tigers are found in India. We are also working on Project Lion and Project Dolphin,” PM Modi said.
The IBCA was officially unveiled by PM Modi during the commemoration event of Project Tiger’s 50th anniversary at Mysuru University in Karnataka in April of this year.
Furthermore, PM Modi underlined India’s significant strides in renewable energy, ranking it among the top five countries globally with a substantial installed renewable energy capacity. He also emphasised India’s ongoing dedication to biodiversity conservation, protection, and enhancement.
The Environment and Climate Sustainability Minister’s Meeting took place after the conclusion of the two-day-long 4th Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) meeting, demonstrating India’s continued active engagement in addressing environmental concerns on an international level.
