Bhubaneshwar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his gratitude on Saturday towards the Odisha government and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for their collaborative efforts in aiding the Centre’s fight against Naxalism. During a ceremony in Bhubaneshwar where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) projects, Shah highlighted a significant decline in Naxal-related incidents from 2015 to 2019.

“From 2015-2019, there has been a 30 percent decrease in the number of naxal incidents, a 32 percent decrease in encounters, and a 56 percent decrease in death of security personnel,” Shah said.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Bharatiya Janata Party government to combat Naxalism. Both the Union Minister and Odisha Chief Minister participated in the inauguration and foundation stone-laying ceremonies for multiple developmental projects in Bhubaneswar.

As part of the event, the four-laning project for the Kamakhayanagar-Duburi section of National Highway -200 was officially dedicated to the nation.

Shah emphasised the pivotal role that the development of national highways holds in the agenda of the Central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted the substantial budget allocation towards this sector over the past nine years.

Praising the efforts of the Odisha government in effectively implementing the Centre’s disaster management strategies on the ground, Shah cited the state as an exemplary model of synergy between two administrations in successfully controlling natural disasters.
