No other strong leader like PM Modi at National level: Ajit Pawar

Pune: Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, expressed his view on Monday that there is currently no other prominent leader on a national level who possesses the same strength and influence as Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking to journalists in Pune, Pawar acknowledged that there may be critics of his decision to align with the Eknath Shinde-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, but he emphasised that personal experiences shape an individual’s perspective.

“Today, I personally do not see any other leader as strong as Narendra Modi at the national level. I do not see any other alternative. Some people criticise me citing my past statements, but a man can have different opinions on the basis of his experiences,” he said.

Ajit Pawar, who is the nephew of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) founder Sharad Pawar, joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government alongside eight party MLAs on July 2.

On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah during an event in Pune said Ajit Pawar is now at the “right place after a long time”, but “came very late”.

Responding to Shah’s comments, Ajit Pawar reiterated that his decision to align with the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance was to promoting development, addressing various issues, and supporting elected representatives in fulfilling their duties within their constituencies.

Pawar commended Prime Minister Modi for allocating Rs 25,000 crore for the renovation of 500 railway stations, including 44 stations in Maharashtra. He also lauded Amit Shah for making bold decisions that have been pending for the past two decades since taking on the role of Cooperation Ministry. According to Pawar, the farming community should accept that Amit Shah, under the leadership of PM Modi, has undertaken significant decisions that were long overdue.

Regarding his recent meeting with Amit Shah to discuss constituency reviews, Pawar mentioned that while a brief conversation occurred about the mega alliance (maha-yuti) comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, the focal point of the meeting was the various ongoing projects worth Rs 80,000 crore led by the central government in the state.

Ajit Pawar said that along with him, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis were also present during the meeting with Shah.
