New Delhi: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya would move the Pharmacy (Amendment) Bill, 2023, in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday for consideration and passage to amend the Pharmacy Act, 1948. Earlier on August 7, the Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha.
Under the provisions of the Pharmacy (Amendment) Bill 2023, individuals registered as pharmacists according to the Jammu and Kashmir Pharmacy Act of 2011, or possessing qualifications outlined in the same Act, will be automatically considered registered pharmacists under the Pharmacy Act of 1948. This inclusion will be subject to the condition that the concerned individuals submit their registration applications within a year of the amendment’s enactment and pay the required fee.
The bill, which garnered approval through a voice vote in the Lower House, aims to resolve concerns surrounding the status of those who are registered or qualified under the Jammu and Kashmir Pharmacy Act.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya emphasised the positive impact of the Pharmacy (Amendment) Bill on the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. He underscored India’s role as a global pharmaceutical hub, providing affordable and high-quality medicines to its citizens.
During discussions about the bill, Mandaviya highlighted the rapid development witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir following the revocation of Article 370. The region is experiencing significant progress in terms of healthcare infrastructure, railway connectivity, and road networks, leading to increased employment opportunities for the local populace.
