Colonel Manpreet Singh’s six-year-old son paid his last salute in his army uniform. Baby Kabir Singh, who greeted the dead body brought home in Mullanpur Garibdas, Punjab, is a novelty for everyone. Colonel Manpreet Singh was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.
Kabir Singh is the promise of future India,” defence expert Retired Colonel Shailendra said. He added that his son will grow up to be a brave soldier like Colonel Manpreet Singh.
Colonel Manpreet Singh was born in Bharonjian, a small village in Punjab. His tenure in Kashmir, serving in the Political Rifles, was just four months away. Manpreet Singh has a two-year-old daughter as well. His father was also a retired veteran of the Indian Army who passed away a few years ago. Manpreet’s family consists of his mother and his wife, Jagmeet Grewal.
In 2021, when he was a lieutenant colonel, the country honoured Manpreet Singh with the Army Medal for Gallantry. In the same year, as part of his promotion, a posting in a peaceful area was also offered. But the brave soldier turned down the posting.
One more soldier died of injuries in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag, bringing the death toll to four. Colonel Manpreet Singh, Commanding Officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles Unit, Major Ashish Dhonchak, and Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhatta laid down their lives for the country in the encounter.
