Bharat is awash with celebrations today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the dynamic leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marks his 73rd birthday. The occasion is being marked by an array of festivities organised by the BJP, including the launch of “Sewa Pakhwara,” a two-week-long service campaign showcasing the party’s commitment to social welfare and community service.

Born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Gujarat, Narendra Modi has risen from humble beginnings to become one of India’s most influential political figures. As a young child, he was actively involved in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activities, eventually dedicating himself full-time to the organization. During the turbulent period of the Emergency in 1975, Modi played a crucial role as the main link for the RSS’s covert operations.

Modi’s political journey continued to gain momentum. He relocated to Delhi in 1979, returning to Gujarat in 1985. In 1987, he assumed the role of state organisational secretary of the BJP. Over the years, he played pivotal roles in organising and coordinating significant political events such as the Ram Rath Yatra in 1990 and the Ekta Yatra in 1992.

In 1995, Narendra Modi returned to Gujarat and, in 1998, was appointed as the organisational secretary of the BJP. His political trajectory reached a historic juncture on October 3, 2001, when he was nominated as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Over his tenure, Gujarat witnessed remarkable economic growth, solidifying Modi’s reputation as a “Vikas Purush” (Development Man) among the people.

Modi’s leadership at the state level caught the attention of the entire nation. He was chosen as the face of the BJP in the 2014 general elections, a landmark moment in Indian political history. On May 26, 2014, he was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India, leading the first BJP government to secure an absolute majority in the country’s history.

In the nine years since taking office, Prime Minister Modi has been instrumental in transforming India into the world’s fifth-largest economy, a feat accomplished in record time. He has been recognised for his unwavering courage and decisive leadership, even in challenging circumstances.
