New Delhi: The first review meeting of the expert committee appointed to study the holding of joint Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections will be held on September 23, as announced by former President Ram Nath Kovind, who serves as the Chairman of the Committee. He was speaking to the media in Bhubaneswar, where he shared this important update.
When the nationwide elections are held, the country will have to face many challenges. The committee, under the leadership of former President Ram Nath Kovind, will meticulously study issues such as a hung assembly, no-confidence motions, and security concerns in great detail. The first official meeting of the committee was convened on September 6 at the residence of former President Ram Nath Kovind in Delhi.
The committee includes Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, former opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, former chairman of the 15th Finance Commission N.K. Singh, and former Lok Sabha General Secretary Subash Kashyap. Senior advocate Harish Salve, former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Sanjay Kothari, and Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will participate in the meetings as special guests.
Until 1967, there was a single election for both the state assemblies and the Lok Sabha. However, by 1968, the evolving political landscape in the country necessitated a change in this electoral system.
