NEW DELHI: President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, New Delhi, on October 2, 2023, on the occasion of the 154th Gandhi Jayanti.
In his speech, the Prime Minister mentioned that Gandhi Jayanti also serves as a tribute to his remarkable contributions to India’s struggle for independence through non-violence and civil disobedience.
After paying floral tributes, the Prime Minister also took to social media, where he mentioned that Gandhi’s impact is “global” and “motivating the entire humankind to further the spirit of unity and compassion.” PM Modi shared his message on X (formerly known as Twitter):
“I bow to Mahatma Gandhi on the special occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. His timeless teachings continue to illuminate our path. May we always work towards fulfilling his dreams. May his thoughts enable every youngster to be the agent of change he dreamt of, fostering unity and harmony all over.”
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat today.
Globally, Gandhi’s birth anniversary is celebrated as the ‘International Day of Non-Violence.’
