West Bengal: The Prime Minister has come down heavily against West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, for threatening and jailing innocent people for chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Mamata Banerjee was seen in a viral video stepping out of her vehicle to confront a group of people who raised the ‘Jai Shri’ Ram slogan while she was driving past them. Many of the people fled and she was seen ordering them to come before her.

She alleged that they had called abusive language against her. Four persons were arrested as part of the crackdown against those who raised the slogans.

Narendra Modi said, “I want to say to the people of entire West Bengal, ‘Jai Shri Ram’. I want to say it especially to Mamata didi. Didi has started to put people in jail for chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ . So I thought that I should also say ‘Jai Shri Ram’ to her directly. Maybe she would put me in jail as well.”

He added that if she puts him in jail then he will be serve the innocent people whom she has imprisoned. The Prime Minister asked if it is a crime to hail Lord Ram in West Bengal.

Narendra Modi also admonished Mamata Banerjee for calling Lord Ram as polling agent of the BJP. He said that Lord Ram is in our veins and in the culture and the lord is the inspiration for all Indians.

Taking a dig at CPI(M) General Secretary, Sitaram Yechury’s recent Hindu bashing saying that Hindus are violent, said that the communist leader believes in foreign principles and ideologies. He said those people do not respect either Ram or Sita which is attached to their names in reference to the communist leader’s first name ‘Sitaram’.

He added that insulting Ramayan and Mahabharat has become a fashion for them.
