New Delhi: The new Vande Bharat trains have hit the tracks with many new features. Presented to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month, these trains boast innovations such as smoke detection sensors that promptly halt the train upon detecting smoke.
If you think you can smoke inside the toilet, you are but, going to make the train stop immediately. Not many people know that there is smoke detector system inside the toilet of new Vande Bharat trains. Kerala’s new Vande Bharat trains have stopped like this twice in a week now. This happened in Tirur, Pattambi-Pallipuram route. A passenger smoked inside the toilet and the train came to an immediate halt, detecting smoke. The passenger was fined for violating the law and causing inconvenience.
The new Vande Bharat Express has smoke detection sensors deployed within the coach, boarding area, and toilets. These sensors record the quantity of smoke, activating the detector when surpassing a predefined level. Once triggered, an alarm resonates through the locomotive cabin display, providing precise information about the coach where the smoke is detected and the source of the smoke. In accordance with safety protocols, the train must promptly come to a halt upon the alarm’s activation. Railway technical staff are responsible for detecting the source of the alarm and confirming the absence of a fire in the presence of officials. Only after this verification process will the loco pilot be authorized to start the train again.
Smoke detection sensors are also installed in the AC compartment of current ICF coaches. Toilets in new LHB coaches also have the same sensor system. The main objective of this system is to ensure early detection and safety of train fires. If you smoke in Vandebharat, you will not only have to pay a heavy fine, but the journey will also be delayed.
The Prime Minister has allocated nine new Vande Bharat trains to improve rail connectivity across 11 states in the country, traversing through the cities of Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Gujarat.
