CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu State BJP President K Annamalai has criticised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin for making fake election promises to the voters. Annamalai referred to Stalin’s election promises as ’empty promises.’

Annamalai stated that the DMK has betrayed the people since coming into power. He pointed out that in DMK’s election manifesto, numbered 356, it was promised that doctors and nurses working on contractual appointments by Medical Recruitment Board (MRB) during Covid pandemic situation in the state would be made permanent. However, no action has been taken on this.

The BJP leader also noted that instead of providing permanent jobs, the DMK government has already dismissed 2,472 MRB staff nurses who were recruited during the COVID-19 emergency period.

Annamalai also demanded the release of the nurses who were arrested for requesting the fulfillment of the DMK’s election promise.

Annamalai made this statement immediately after the Chennai Police arrested more than 700 contract nurses working in Tamil Nadu government hospitals when they were heading to the Directorate of Medical Services office in Chennai.

The Nurses Association stated that the DMK government had made an election manifesto promise that, after coming to power, they would provide permanent jobs. Their protest is solely focused on holding Stalin accountable for this promise.

Following their arrest, they declared their intention to continue their protest through a hunger strike.
