New Delhi: On Monday, the Supreme Court denied Manish Sisodia’s request for bail in connection with the alleged irregularities linked to the Delhi Excise Policy case. The verdict came from a panel of judges, Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti. Nevertheless, the court ordered that the trial for the case must be completed within the next six to eight months. The court also noted that if the case’s proceedings progress at a slow pace, Sisodia can reapply for bail after a period of three months.
Manish Sisodia had sought bail from the Supreme Court in the CBI and ED cases related to the alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy, challenging the rejection of his bail plea by the Delhi High Court.
In February 2023, Sisodia was arrested by the CBI for alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of now-scrapped Delhi’s new excise policy. The policy was withdrawn amid allegations of foul play by the opposition. Sisodia is currently in judicial custody.
