New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued a stern directive emphasising the utmost seriousness with which sexual harassment in the workplace must be treated. The court further stressed that failing to hold the offender accountable for their actions is equal to disrespecting the victim’s life. This pronouncement came from a bench presided over by Chief Justice Dr. DY Chandrachud.
The context of this arose from a case in Uttar Pradesh, where the accused was acquitted by the High Court. The Supreme Court made this significant observation while reviewing a petition challenging the aforementioned decision. The Supreme Court has clearly stated that sexual harassment in workplaces should be treated with the utmost gravity, and it called upon all courts to accord due attention to this critical matter.
