Chennai : Tamil Nadu’s Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi faced a significant setback as the Madras High Court found him guilty in an disproportionate asset case case. The High Court’s order overturned the trial court’s decision that had acquitted Ponmudi and his wife, P Visalakshi. The order was issued by Justice G Jayachandran.
The High Court concluded that the special judge had made an error in acquitting Ponmudi and his wife. Consequently, both have been summoned to appear in court on December 21. They were found guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the final verdict will be announced on December 21.
A vigilance case was initiated against Ponmudi and his wife in 2002. The case alleges illegal property acquisition during the period of 1996-2001 when Ponmudi held a ministerial position in the DMK government.
