New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar reacted to the incident of TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee mocking him. He said that an incident which could never be accepted took place outside the Parliament today. He also criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who filmed the incident on his mobile phone, without naming him. He also criticised the Congress party for allegedly posting the video on its Instagram account.
“A senior member of Parliament takes video of another member. Why? I tell you I have suffered greatly,” the Vice President said in a statement. “You have no idea what kind of reaction people have against this institution and today we got a chance to see its lowest level,” he added.
“This is not just an insult to a farmer and a community, it is an insult to the post of Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. And that too by a member of a political party that has ruled for so long,” he said.
Jagdeep Dhankhar called the Congress party’s action “shameful”.
The incident took place during a protest dharna staged by the I.N.D.I. Alliance MPs outside the Parliament. Kalyan Banerjee was doing a distorted imitation of the Vice President. After the incident came out in the media, there has been a huge protest against the MP. It was Rahul Gandhi who recorded Kalyan Banerjee’s mockery presentation on his mobile phone. Protests are also rising on social media against Rahul, who was seen enjoying and recording the video of Kalyan Banerjee insulting the Vice President.
78 MPs were suspended from Parliament for disrupting the proceedings, with 45 from Rajya Sabha and 33 from Lok Sabha. The Trinamool MP insulted the Vice President while protesting against the suspension of MPs.
