New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar by phone to express his regret concerning the incident involving abusive behavior by opposition MPs. He referred to such actions as regrettable, mentioning that he himself has faced similar attacks over the past 20 years. However, he noted that targeting a person in a constitutional position is unfortunate, as conveyed to the Vice President.

In response, the VP told Prime Minister that such actions cannot stop him from upholding the principles of the Constitution. “ Mr. Prime Minister, the antics of a few won’t prevent me from performing my duty and upholding the principles enshrined in our Constitution. I am committed to those values from the bottom of my heart. None of the insults will make me change my path”, the Vice President wrote on Twitter as replied to the PM.

The controversial incident occurred during the opposition MPs’ protest dharna at Makar Dwar in Parliament two days ago. Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee mockingly imitated Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, while Congress MP Rahul seen capturing the incident in his mobile. Following this, the Vice President addressed the incident, questioning if he was being mocked because of his farming community background and emphasizing the regrettable nature of such actions.
