New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry has issued a directive to intensify COVID-19 surveillance across all states in the country. It is advised that mock drills should be conducted every three months in all hospitals. Officials stated that there is currently no cause for alarm but suggested that the central and state governments should act together. During the Corona review meeting held today, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, said that awareness should be spread among the people.
With the onset of colder weather and festive celebrations ahead, he stressed the necessity of preventive measures. A new variant of the virus, named JN.1, has emerged and has been detected not only in Kerala but also in Maharashtra and Goa. With this, it is advised that all states exercise caution.
Concerns have risen due to a significant surge in COVID-19 cases over the past nine days. On December 11, 938 cases were reported, escalating to 1937 cases by December 19. Additionally, 18 individuals who attended a recent film festival in Goa have tested positive for COVID.
The government is ensuring full support for all states. Minister Mandaviya said that it is the collective responsibility of all state governments to unite and collaborate in combating the ongoing battle against COVID. Health Ministers of all states and Union Territories, Additional Chief Principal Secretaries, representatives from relevant Central Ministries, and many others attended the meeting.
