NEW DELHI: The Vishva Hindu Parishad criticised CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury’s statement that he would not participate in the Prana Pratishtha (Consecration) ceremony at the Ayodhya Ram Temple.
VHP National Spokesperson Vinod Bansal remarked that while political opposition is understandable, displaying such animosity towards one’s own name appears more aligned with a Communist stance. He said that a communist only expresses hatred toward Sita-Ram.
In response to Sitaram Yechury declining the invitation for the Prana Pratishtha ceremony scheduled on January 22, 2024, Vinod Bansal posted on formal Twitter, expressing disappointment but not surprise, stating that higher expectations weren’t held for a Communist party leader. Vinod Bansal added that while political opposition is acceptable, but dislike to one’s own name seems solely characteristic of a communist ideology.
Vinod Bansal further emphasized the need for Sitaram Yechuri to clarify whether his objection lies with Lord Ram or his own name, stating, “A clarification is required on it.”
Earlier, Sitaram Yechuri had conveyed his decision not to attend the Ayodhya Ram Temple ceremony, citing personal choice in matters of religion. He also criticized the government’s fusion of religion and politics, voicing his intent to abstain from the Ram Temple event. Vinod Bansal responded to Yechuri’s statement.
Reacting to Sitaram Yechury’s remark, Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs said “those called by Lord Ram will only reach Ayodhya.”
The Prana Pratishtha (Consecration) ceremony, symbolizing the installation of Lord Ram’s idol at the Ayodhya temple, is expected to draw thousands of attendees, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
