New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has imposed a ban on a faction of the Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir, led by separatist figure Masarat Alam Bhat, citing their involvement in anti-national and secessionist activities. The ban, executed under stringent anti-terror laws, aims to curb the outfit’s efforts to create unrest and promote terror in the region.
The Home Ministry, in an official notification, highlighted the group’s objectives, which include seeking independence for Jammu and Kashmir from India, advocating for its merging with Pakistan, and the establishment of Islamic rule in the region. The organization has been accused of actively participating in secessionist activities, raising funds from various sources, including Pakistan and its proxy organizations, to support terrorist activities and sustain incidents of stone-pelting on security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Home Ministry emphasized that the Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir (Masarat Alam faction) and its members show disrespect towards the constitutional authority and setup of the country. The ban will remain in effect for a period of five years from the date of its publication in the official gazette, unless otherwise ordered.
