Abu Dhabi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the largest traditional Hindu temple in the Middle East, designed on the model of ‘Akshardham,’ on February 14, 2024. The consecration ceremony will begin with idol worship in the morning. Prime Minister Modi will attend the dedication ceremony in the evening.
This temple, known as the BAPS Hindu Temple, is the first traditional Hindu temple in West Asia. It will be open to the public on February 18. The temple has been constructed at a cost of Rs 700 crore and has a 1,000-year warranty. The ongoing final stage of construction is shaping the temple, which is crafted in pink sandstone.
Situated near the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway in Abu Mureikha, the temple features hand-carved sculptures in pink and white marble. The seven towering structures within the temple symbolise the seven emirates of the UAE.
It is built at the confluence of three sacred rivers. The temple serves as a symbolic convergence of India and the UAE’s cultural histories and civilizations. The stones used for constructing the temple were hand-carved by over 2,000 sculptors from the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat. The temple’s stone tablets contain inscriptions of 14 stories from diverse regions, including Arabic, Chinese, Aztec, and Mesopotamia.
