New Delhi: Women Agniveer Vayu soldiers are set to participate in the Indian Air Force contingent during this year’s Republic Day parade, as announced by an Indian Air Force official on Monday.
The inclusion of women Agniveer soldiers in the parade aligns with the Agnipath scheme, which was implemented in September 2022. The scheme mandates four years of service in the Armed Forces, with those selected for enrollment in the regular cadre obligated to serve an additional minimum engagement period of 15 years.
As part of the Republic Day celebrations, two all-women contingents from the defense forces are scheduled to march. The contingent will feature women Agniveer soldiers from the Navy and Air Force, highlighting the growing role of women in Bharat’s defense. Additionally, another all-women contingent from the Directorate General of the Armed Forces Medical Services will include military nursing services’ nurses, led by women doctors.
French President Emmanuel Macron is set to be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. Notably, this marks the sixth time a French leader has been chosen as the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations in the national capital.
