New Delhi: Indore and Surat emerged as the joint cleanest cities in Bharat, receiving the prestigious Swachh Survekshan Awards presented by President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday. This marks Indore’s seventh consecutive win as the cleanest city in Bharat, showcasing its commitment to cleanliness. Navi Mumbai which came third in last year’s awards, retained its position.
Saswad in Maharashtra claimed the cleanest city award in the category of urban centers with a population of less than 1 lakh. Patan in Chattisgarh and Lonavla in Maharashtra secured the second and third positions, respectively in this category. Varanasi and Prayagraj were honored as the cleanest Ganga Towns. The MHOW Cantonment Board in Madhya Pradesh received recognition as the cleanest cantonment town. However, Kerala did not make it to the top 10 in any category.
Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, and Secretary Manoj Joshi graced the dais during the award ceremony. Swachh Survekshan, conducted by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under the Swachh Bharat Urban Mission since 2016, stands as the world’s largest urban sanitation and cleanliness survey.
