Shimla: The higher regions of Himachal Pradesh, including Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur, along with parts of Kullu, the Dhauladhar mountains in Kangra district, and the mountains in Shimla District, experienced light rain and snowfall in the past 24 hours.
The lowest minimum temperature in Himachal Pradesh was recorded at -5.8 degrees Celsius in Sumdo, Lahaul-Spiti, and in Kalpa, Kinnaur, it was -3.6 degrees Celsius. Other notable temperatures include 0.6 degrees Celsius in Reckong Peo (Kinnaur), -1.2 degrees Celsius in Narkanda (Shimla district), 1.2 degrees Celsius in Kufri, 0.4 degrees Celsius in Bhunter (Kullu), 3.1 degrees Celsius in Shimla, 2.2 degrees Celsius in Solan, and 5.2 degrees Celsius in Dharamshala.
Meanwhile, the neighbouring state of Uttarakhand witnessed a sudden shift in weather patterns, resulting in continuous and heavy snowfall in Kedarnath Dham since Wednesday evening. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the minimum temperature in Kedarnath to hover between -16 and -18 degrees Celsius until January 23.
Across North India, severe cold persists, with many states recording single-digit temperatures. Dense fog and low visibility affected commuters in the early hours of Thursday. The IMD’s official release indicates the presence of ‘very dense fog’ in isolated parts of Punjab, Haryana, West Rajasthan, and Bihar at 5:30 am on Thursday.
