Congress party in Maharashtra faces internal rift: Milind Deora’s resignation dubbed as ladder to climb up

Mumbai: After Congress President of Mumbai unit, Milind Deora, submitted his resignation letter taking moral responsibility for the party’s defeat, senior Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam asked if his resignation was a ‘ladder to climb up’.

Nirupam’s scathing remark comes after Milind Deora said after resignation that he is looking forward to play a National role in the party.

Sanjay Nirupam, who was the former chief of Mumbai Congress party said, “A resignation is done when someone wants to reject something. But here a moment later, a national level position is being sought. Is this a resignation or a ladder to climb up? The party should be cautious with such ‘hard-working’ people.”

Milind Deora also proposed a three member panel to lead the Congress party in the coming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

However, Sanjay Nirupam also downplayed Deora’s idea of a three-member panel by saying that it is not appropriate and warned that it will ruin the party further.

Milind Deora was appointed the chief of the prestigious Mumbai unit of the Congress party just before the Lok Sabha elections. But, Congress got a drubbing in the elections and Deora himself failed in South Mumbai constituency, where he was the candidate.

He lost to Shiv Sena’s Arvind Ganpat Sawant by a margin of 1 lakh votes.

Interestingly, Deora is aiming for a national role in the Congress party after he failed to take the party to victory in Mumbai unit.
