New Delhi: Mahua Moitra, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader who faced expulsion from the Lok Sabha last month for unethical conduct, has vacated her government-allotted bungalow in New Delhi. The Directorate of Estates (DoE) served Moitra with an eviction notice on Tuesday.
A team of officials from the DoE was dispatched to oversee the eviction process for the former TMC MP. Moitra, however, claims to have voluntarily left the premises before authorities arrived. “ House Number 9B Telegraph Lane in New Delhi occupied by Mohuva Moitra was fully vacated by 10 am today morning and the possession was handed over by her lawyers to the DoE who are inspecting and engaged in due process. The premises were vacated before authorities arrived and no eviction took place at all,” Moitra’s office told to media.
Despite seeking relief from the Delhi High Court on Thursday, Moitra failed to secure a stay on the DoE notice, compelling her to vacate the government bungalow. Her expulsion from the Lok Sabha on December 8, following the Ethics Committee’s findings of unethical conduct, stemmed from allegations of sharing Parliament account credentials and accepting gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for asking questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group.
