New Delhi: A petition challenging the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to halt the live telecast of the Prana Pratishtha ceremony at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has been filed in the Supreme Court. The court has issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu government, demanding an explanation for the reported restrictions.

The petition contends that the Tamil Nadu government has imposed restrictions on rituals like poojas and annadanam (food donations) related to the Prana Pratishtha. It is reported that verbal instructions were given to police officers.

In response, the Tamil Nadu government informed the court that no such restrictions have been imposed. They further alleged that the petition was fabricated for political gain.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman strongly criticised the Tamil Nadu government’s actions, including the removal of LED screens installed for watching the live footage of the Prana Pratishtha. The Union Minister emphasised that such moves by the DMK-led government were seen as a violation of people’s right to worship.
