Ranchi: In a horrific incident, two Hindu youths were attacked after they refused to chant religious slogans. The youths were shown videos of Tabrez Ansari before forcing them to chant religious slogans.

The incident reported by a national media occurred in Ranchi, Jharkhand on Saturday. Shekhar and Basanth had gone in search of their cattle when the mob attack occurred. They youths were shown a video of Tabrez Ansari who was also a victim of a mob attack.

Soon after they showed the video the mob demanded the youth to raise religious slogans. However they refused to do what the mob ordered. The mob then attacked them with knives and one of the victim sustained injuries on the neck while the other was stabbed in the hand.

A complaint has been registered and investigations are on to nab the culprits.

Shekhar and Basanth escaped narrowly with their lives. Mob lynching are not new and the horrific practice has been reported from across the country. However, the reporting by many media houses have been selective and partial resulting in putting the blame of mob lynching only on Hindu community against minorities.

While mob violence is a law and order problem that should be dealt firmly by the local administration, the issue is always blown out of proportion and depicted as a religious and political issue.
