Lucknow: BSP MP Ritesh Pandey, representing the Ambedkar Nagar constituency, has dealt a blow to the Mayawati-led BSP by joining the BJP. Pandey joined the BJP on Sunday in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and other BJP leaders.
Pandey tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the BSP earlier in the day, expressing his decision to join the BJP. He refrained from commenting on the activities and decisions of Mayawati, stating that he elaborated on his reasons in his resignation letter. He emphasized that his decision was influenced by the ground-level development initiatives undertaken by the state government.
Highlighting various developmental projects in Uttar Pradesh, Pandey praised the state government’s efforts, including the establishment of industrial areas, the construction of expressways, enhancement of educational infrastructure, and road connectivity improvements.
Ritesh Pandey, who has been representing the Ambedkar Nagar constituency since 2019, emerged victorious in the general elections by defeating his BJP rival, Mukut Bihari. Prior to his role as an MP, Pandey served as an MLA from the Jalalpur constituency. He assumed the leadership of the BSP in the Lok Sabha in January 2020. Notably, Pandey has been recognised as the 19th most active MP in the Parliamentary Business Survey among 539 MPs nationwide, making him the youngest MP to secure a spot in the Top 20 rankings.
