New Delhi: BJP’s Central Election Committee meeting will be held in Delhi today (March 11, 2024), to decide the second list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the meeting at the party headquarters. Candidates for more Lok Sabha seats for states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are likely to be finalised at the meeting.
In light of more parties joining the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, the discussion in the meeting will include seat sharing in these states. BJP believes that TDP and Jana Sena parties from Andhra and BJD from Odisha becoming as part of the alliance will be of great advantage.
The final decision on seat sharing in the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra is also likely to be taken in today’s meeting. The Mahayuti alliance comprises the BJP, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and his deputy and Nationalist Congress Party-Ajit Pawar faction.
Earlier, on Sunday, four leaders from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and one from the Congress had joined the BJP in the presence of the party’s general secretary Tarun Chugh in New Delhi.
BJP had released its first list of 195 candidates in 16 states for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on March 3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani, were included in the first phase candidate list.
Candidates from 12 seats in Kerala were also included in this list. Candidates for the remaining seats in Kerala will find their names in the second list.
The Lok Sabha elections are expected to be held sometime between April and May this year.
