Chennai: The attempt of left liberal cultural celebrities to defame the country by writing an open letter to the Prime Minister got exposed today. Film maker, Mani Ratnam, said he didn’t sign the letter which was shot to Narendra Modi that speaks of mob lynching and says Jai Sree Ram is now a war cry.

Mani Ratnam said he has no opinion that mob lynching are prevalent in the country. He alleged that someone else has signed in his name.

The letter which was sent on 23 July was an attempt to spread fear among the people. It says that the country is increasingly killing Muslims and Dalits by people who chant Jai Sree Ram. They urged the Central Government to take strong actions against the perpetrators.

The letter was written and signed by 49 celebrities from the field of filmmaking and literature.

However, Mani Ratnam said that he was busy with the shoot of his movie during the time and had no part in it.

Many other celebrities came out against the letter and alleged that it was an attempt to spread fear and hatred in society. They accused them of being selective and stall the development of India. Those who came against the letter was Prasoon Joshi, Kangana Ranaut, Mandhu Bhandakar, Vivek Agnihotri, and Sonal Mansingh.
