Thiruvananthapuram: An activist of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) was critically burnt while allegedly setting fire to the shop of a BJP booth secretary. The incident occurred in Kachani, Thiruvananthapuram, last night. Anish, the DYFI activist who sustained critical burns during the attack, is currently undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital.
The BJP booth secretary, Anoop, informed the police that the attack was motivated by hatred, following his act of hoisting the BJP flag in front of the shop. Anoop had recently joined the BJP. The police stated that Anish, the accused in the case, could not be questioned as he was undergoing treatment.
This attack of the DYFI worker follows news of an ABVP worker being attacked by SFI members on the Karyavattom University campus. ABVP activists claimed that the SFI launched the attack out of fear of defeat in the upcoming elections.
