Thiruvananthapuram: BJP spokesperson Sandeep Vachaspati criticized the dancer Kalamandalam Sathyabhama for her colour-caste discriminatory remarks against RLV Ramakrishnan, the brother of the late Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani.
During an interview on a YouTube channel, Kalamandalam Sathyabhama insulted RLV Ramakrishnan, Mohiniyattam dancer by stating that Mohiniyattam dancers should be fair and handsome. Sathyabhama commented that Ramakrishnan, with his colour complexion resembling that of a crow, was unfit for Mohiniyattam performances. He questioned the body-shaming remarks from Sathyabhama.
In response to Sathyabhama’s discriminatory remarks, Sandeep Vachaspati criticized her through a Facebook post. He questioned how such individuals could judge others based on skin tone and urged that people making such discriminatory and insulting statements should be keep out from scoiety by declaring a social taboo against them. Sandeep Vachaspati described Sathyabhama’s comments as poisonous.
In his post, Sandeep Vachaspati expressed his shock that there are still people in our society who judge others based on skin colour and caste rather than on their talents and hard work. He said that such attitudes of qualifying individuals based on skin tone as a disease that should be eradicated.
Extending his full support to Ramakrishnan, Sandeep Vachaspati stated that Sathyabhama’s comments are intolerable and unacceptable in a civilized society. He also cited a similar incident that occurred in Malappuram on March 10th, where a football player from Ivory Coast in Africa was subjected to racial abuse.
