Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam film and television actress Sneha Sreekumar criticized Mohiniyattam dancer Kalamandalam Sathyabhama for her color-caste discriminatory remarks against RLV Ramakrishnan, Mohiniyattam dancer and brother of late Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani.
Through a Facebook post, Sneha Sreekumar challenged Kalamandalam Sathyabhama to compete with RLV Ramakrishnan in Mohiniyattam dance and defeat him. In her Facebook post, Sneha Sreekumar also urged the parents of students who are sending their children to learn dance from Sathyabhama not to spoil their children’s future by allowing them to associate with a woman who lacks humanity and manners.
Sneha Sreekumar questioned Sathyabhama’s insulting body-shaming remarks. She asked how a performer can be judged based on his colour and compared to crow.
During an interview on a YouTube channel, Kalamandalam Sathyabhama insulted RLV Ramakrishnan, by stating that Mohiniyattam dancers should be fair and handsome. Sathyabhama commented that Ramakrishnan, with his complexion resembling that of a crow, was unfit for Mohiniyattam performances. Sathyabhama also remarked that his appearance was not appealing at all, not even to his own mother.
Responding to the controversial remarks, actress Sneha Sreekumar lashed out at Sathyabhama. She stated that she came to know Ramakrishnan only because of his excellent performance. Sneha then questioned how many people know Sathyabhama as a self-proclaimed dancer for 44 years. She added that Sathyabhama’s statements stemmed from her disappointment at not being successful, and that should not lead her to insult others with talent. Sneha also added that Sathyabhama should face legal action for her insulting body-shaming remarks.
