New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday rejected Jolly Joseph’s plea seeking acquittal in the Koodathai murder case and asked her to apply for bail if she was jailed for two and a half years. The court allowed Jolly to file the petition and also observed that the Koodathai case is well-known in Kerala.
In 2019, the world became aware of the murders that shook Kerala. Six members of Jolly’s husband’s family, including her mother-in-law Annamma Thomas, were killed under mysterious circumstances between 2002 and 2016. The first in the series of murders was the death of retired teacher Annamma Thomas, who collapsed and died after consuming mutton soup. Subsequently, Annamma’s husband Tom Thomas and son Roy Thomas died under similar circumstances.
Annamma’s brother MM Mathew, Tom Thomas’ nephew Shaju’s one-year-old daughter Alfine, and Shaju’s wife Philly also perished. Special Branch Sub-Inspector Jeevan George’s report, labeling all six deaths as mysterious, marked a turning point. Subsequent investigations revealed that all six deaths were homicides.
