Thrissur: In response to the casteist abuse directed at acclaimed dancer RLV Ramakrishnan by Kalamandalam Sathyabhama, Kerala Kalamandalam will host a Mohiniyattam performance by RLV Ramakrishnan. According to reports, Kalamandalam authority has invited RLV Ramakrishnan to perform Mohiniyattam at its prestigious Koothambalam on Tuesday (March 26) at 5 pm.
Accepting the invitation, Ramakrishnan expressed gratitude, noting that despite having completed his PhD at Kerala Kalamandalam, this marks his first such opportunity to perform at Kalamandalam. He termed it a dream come true moment.
The incident of insulting the renowned artist and dancer RLV Ramakrishnan came to light last Thursday. In an interview with a YouTube channel, Kalamandalam Satyabhama stated that those who perform Mohiniyattam should embody the qualities of a Mohini, possessing enchanting or attractive traits. She commented that Ramakrishnan’s colour was that of a crow.
Satyabhama emphasized that Mohiniyattam is characterized by parted feet, and she expressed that it seems awkward for a man to perform with parted legs. In her opinion, male performers of Mohiniyattam should be handsome, as she believed there are indeed handsome men capable of performing the dance. She further remarked that even Ramakrishnan’s own mother could not have beared his displeasing appearance.
