NIA to investigate frequent calls from Kerala to Pakistan via parallel telephone exchange

Ernakulam: National Investigation Agency (NIA) reported that most of the calls from Kerala through parallel telephone exchanges are to Bangladesh and Pakistan. There is information that these phone calls are for carrying out spy work and spreading terrorism. Illegal calls from Kerala through parallel exchanges are mostly made by Bangladeshis who have migrated to Kerala as inter-state workers.

The state government had handed over the investigation into 20 parallel telephone exchange cases registered in 14 police stations to the NIA. The NIA will start a comprehensive investigation as soon as the Union Home Ministry orders. The Intelligence Bureau had found that phone calls through parallel telephone exchanges were mostly for terrorist activities and espionage activities.

The investigation will also focus on those who called to Pakistan. It is found that those working for Pakistan’s spy agency ISI, are also involved in IS sleeper cells in Kerala. The NIA had earlier collected the information of illegal immigrants living in the country posing as Bengalis.

It evoked suspicion when it was observed that some of these people who were in contact with their relatives and friends in Bangladesh through social media groups have been making phone calls through parallel telephone exchanges. Many people called home at the same time by sharing hot sports on SIMs and mobile phones taken from India. The investigation will also be conducted based on the reports of the NIA, Police and the Cyber Crime Wing, which is taking up the investigation into the terror links of the parallel telephone exchanges.

It is reported that the Pakistani spy organization is providing the necessary facilities to run such telephone exchanges in Bharat. Parallel telephone exchanges worked by evading the international interconnect carrier and secretly bypassing the Internet call.
