Wayanad: NDA candidate K. Surendran will reach Wayanad today. BJP activists will welcome him and conduct a roadshow. The election battle in the nationally prominent constituency is intensifying. While the BJP has fielded K. Surendran against Rahul Gandhi, the LDF is fielding the national leader, Annie Raja.
K. Surendran, a stalwart figure in Kerala politics, has a long-standing history of dedicated public service and activism. K. Surendran has been the state president of BJP Kerala since February 2020. His journey into public service began during his schooling years, when he joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He was graduated in chemistry from Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode, and became an activist of the ABVP. Later, he became a full-time active member of the party.
K. Surendran became more prominent in Kerala politics after he became the state president of Yuva Morcha. K. Surendran was able to put pressure on both the left and right fronts by launching strong protests against them.
K. Surendran’s work as a young leader has earned him praise beyond politics. K. Surendran led protests against various issues, including the Kovalam palace strike, the strike against the Kerala University assistant grade scam, the Total for U scam, the Malabar cements scam, the solar scam, etc. He joined the BJP from the Yuva Morcha and has performed well as the general secretary of the party.
K. Surendran’s voice also rose against the brutality of the Left government towards the devotees in Sabarimala following the verdict of Supreme Court allowing the entry of women into the Sabarimala temple. K. Surendran visited Sabarimala and was subsequently arrested by the police, leading to his imprisonment for 22 days without bail.
K. Surendran, who contested for the Lok Sabha from Kasaragod constituency and twice for the Legislative Assembly from Manjeshwar, lost by 89 votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, K. Surendran left the left and right fronts shocked by contesting in the Pathanamthitta constituency and winning nearly three lakh votes. In the assembly by-election, he contested in the Konni constituency and showed his strength by securing around 40,000 votes. In the 2021 assembly elections, K. Surendran contested in the Manjeshwar and Konni constituencies, and secured around 67,000 votes in Manjeshwar.
