Kalpetta: Thousands of people and workers enthusiastically welcomed Union Minister Smriti Irani during her roadshow in Wayanad. Irani, who came to accompany to submit the nomination of NDA candidate K Surendran, received a grand reception. Surendran, acknowledging Irani’s role in developing the Amethi constituency, honored her with a golden shawl and presented a symbolic bow and arrow. Throughout her address, Irani captivated the crowd, with each word met by thunderous applause.
After her victory over Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, the Congress sought refuge in Wayanad as a safe constituency. The BJP strategically deployed Irani, who defeated Gandhi, for campaigns and to accompany Surendran during his nomination filing. Irani’s presence is perceived as a significant blow to the Congress and Rahul Gandhi.
In adherence to BJP’s directives, state president K Surendran himself has stepped up to contest against Gandhi in Wayanad, aiming to field a formidable opponent and disrupt the INDI alliance. Apart from Rahul Gandhi and Surendran, Annie Raja from the CPI(M) is also contesting in the constituency.
