Kalpetta: Wayanad NDA candidate and BJP state President K. Surendran has submitted his nomination papers. In Wayanad, where Rahul Gandhi is contesting, the state president himself is entering the fray after the central directive to have a strong contest against the INDI alliance.
Union Minister Smriti Irani, who defeated Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha election in Amethi constituency , thereby ending the Congress’s monopoly, was also present during K. Surendran’s nomination paper submission. K. Surendran submitted his nomination papers after conducting a vibrant roadshow in Kalpetta .
K. Surendran welcomed Smriti Irani with a shawl and gifted her a bow and arrow. Afterward, she addressed the people at Kalpetta. Smriti Irani spoke to the BJP activists from an open vehicle, and every word of hers was met with applause and enthusiasm from the crowd.
K. Surendran said that his candidature in Wayanad was completely unexpected and that contesting in Wayanad is seen as a great opportunity for him. K. Surendran had mentioned on Janam TV’s “With the Leader” program the other day that he has a long-standing relationship with the people of Wayanad. He also stated that he was familiar with the people of Wayanad as he had been engaged in social work there for a decade.
