Thrissur: CPI (M) Thrissur district Secretary M M Varghese and Thrissur Corporation Councilor PK Shajan have appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam case. Both individuals arrived at the ED office today around 11 a.m. for interrogation. ED has rejected M M Varghese’s request for exemption from interrogation until the conclusion of the Lok Sabha election.
The ED has discovered secret accounts held by the CPI (M) within the Karuvannur bank. ED will inquire about this information from M M Varghese.
The ED had found that the benami transactions and commission of loans were handled in the bank through several accounts. Information regarding these activities will also be sought from P K Shajan, who served as a member of the commission of inquiry appointed by the CPI(M) in the Karuvannur Bank scam.
The ED found that CPI (M) secretariat member PK Biju had engaged in financial transactions with Satheesh Kumar , the primary accused in the Karuvannur Bank scam case. It was disclosed that Satheesh Kumar had transferred Rs. 5 lakh to Biju. Biju underwent interrogation by the ED for an hour yesterday regarding this matter.
