Wayanad: Union Minister Smriti Irani launched a scathing critique against the Nehru family, alleging their long-standing neglect of Amethi despite holding power for 50 years. Speaking on the Janam TV’s “The Big Interview” program to Chief Editor Pradeep Pillai, Smriti Irani asserted that it was her efforts that brought development to the constituency.

Smriti Irani remarked that upon her arrival in Amethi, she had anticipated significant development initiatives under the Nehru family’s governance. However, she noted the absence of essential facilities such as hospitals, collector’s offices, and fire stations at that time. She observed that most dwellings were mud houses. Smriti Irani asserted that she facilitated the establishment of these amenities within five years of her tenure. She highlighted the construction of toilets in every household. addressed the housing needs of 420,000 people. Smriti Irani emphasized that the Modi government had erected 540,000 houses in Amethi over the past five years and built 400,000 toilets. She also mentioned the provision of clean drinking water for 350,000 individuals and the electrification of 10 lakh homes across 40 villages. She said that these advancements became feasible only after the Modi government came into power.

Smriti Irani accused that that Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra had allegedly acquired land in Amethi under the name of the Rajeev Gandhi Foundation. She highlighted the significant issue of land loss during floods and stated that locals had repeatedly brought this concern to the attention of the Nehru family, suggesting that building a bund could mitigate the problem. Smriti Irani remarked that during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure, no action was taken regarding this matter. She questioned why Rahul Gandhi continued to collaborate with the said party. Furthermore, Irani mentioned that in 2017, the Yogi government responded to the community’s demands and constructed bunds.

She questioned what the Nehru family had accomplished in Amethi over the span of 50 years. She stated that upon her arrival in the constituency, she had not even found a house to live in. She added that there was no space for the BJP to put even a single table in the premises of the booth. She remarked on Robert Vadra’s claim for the Amethi seat, calling it presumptuous. Addressing land encroachments in Amethi, she explained, “There is a situation where we even have to conduct strike against the people who have encroached on the land.” She extended the issue to Raebareli, stating, “Same in the case in Raebareli.” Criticizing Sonia Gandhi’s attendance, she mentioned, “Sonia Gandhi does not even attend the Disha committee meeting.”
